CC Inventory Scanner

$10.00

Stop hand-typing every comic into your collection. CC Inventory Scanner turns your phone camera into a lightning-fast barcode scanner that identifies comics instantly — title, issue, publisher, cover art — and drops them straight into Comic Collector. Two scan modes let you work the way you want: Quick Scan for rapid-fire convention hauls (queue dozens, review once, save all) or Normal Scan for one-at-a-time cataloging with full preview and editing. Works offline at crowded conventions, warns you about duplicates before you double-buy, and auto-fills condition and store so you can scan and move. Your phone. Your barcodes. Your collection — done in minutes instead of hours.

You Didn’t Start Collecting Comics to Spend Hours Typing Data

You know the drill. You come home from a convention with a long box full of new pulls, drop it on the table, and stare at it — because you know what’s next. Open Comic Collector. Type the title. Type the issue number. Look up the publisher. Enter the condition. Repeat forty, fifty, sixty times. By comic number twenty, you’re questioning your life choices.

CC Inventory Scanner fixes that.

Pick up your phone. Point it at the barcode. Done. The comic’s in your collection — title, issue number, publisher, cover art, and all. No typing. No guessing. No copy-pasting from Google.

Two Modes for Two Workflows

⚡ Quick Scan is built for speed. You’re at a convention, you just bought a stack of thirty comics, and you want them cataloged before you forget what you paid. Scan each barcode — you’ll hear a beep and feel a vibration for every successful read — and they pile up in a review queue. When you’re done scanning, scroll through the list, make any edits, and hit Save All. Thirty comics, two minutes. Move on with your day.

📋 Normal Scan is for when you want to take your time. Scan a barcode and get a full preview card with every detail the scanner could find. Edit the title, adjust the condition grade, add notes (“signed by Jim L. at booth 412”), then save and scan the next one. Perfect for cataloging a collection you’re buying, grading books for resale, or processing new weekly pulls.

Switch between modes with a single tap. Use whichever fits the moment.

It Actually Knows What You Scanned

This isn’t a dumb barcode reader that just captures numbers. When you scan a comic, the Inventory Scanner runs a multi-source lookup chain to identify it:

  1. UPC Parsing — Comic barcodes encode the publisher and issue number right in the digits. The scanner reads them instantly, no internet required.
  2. Comic Vine API — If you’ve added a free Comic Vine API key, the scanner pulls the full title, series name, publisher, cover art, release date, and story details automatically.
  3. CLZ Local Match — Already imported your CLZ collection? The scanner checks your existing database for matching barcodes and uses that data as a template.
  4. Manual Fallback — If nothing matches, you still have the barcode captured and your default condition and store pre-filled. Just type the title and save.

Most scans auto-populate everything in under two seconds.

Convention-Ready Features

Conventions are where this plugin earns its keep. We built it for the realities of show floors:

  • Offline Mode — Wi-Fi at conventions is garbage. We know. If you lose connection, your scans cache locally on your phone and sync automatically when you’re back online. You won’t lose a single scan.
  • Default Store — Set it once per event (“Heroes Con 2026” or “Half Price Books Haul”) and every comic you scan gets tagged with that source. Change it when you move to the next show.
  • Default Condition — Convention purchases are usually NM. Set your default and stop selecting it sixty times in a row.
  • Duplicate Detection — About to scan a comic you already own? You’ll get a warning with the option to add it anyway or skip. No more accidental double-buys (unless you meant to).
  • Sound + Haptic Feedback — A beep and a vibration on every successful scan so you know it registered without looking at the screen. Scan with one hand while flipping through a long box with the other.

Works on Your Phone and Your Desktop

Use it wherever makes sense:

  • Admin Dashboard — The scanner lives right in your WordPress admin under Comic Collector → Inventory Scanner. Great for desktop webcam scanning or processing stacks at your desk.
  • Frontend Shortcode — Add |comic_scanner| (use brackets [ ] , not | | for the shortcode) to any WordPress page and you’ve got a phone-optimized scanner you can bookmark to your home screen. It loads fast, looks clean, and the camera viewfinder is sized for one-handed use.

Both locations have the same features. Same modes, same lookup, same offline support.

What You Need

  • Comic Collector (free plugin, v1.9.0+) — already installed if you’re reading this
  • A device with a camera — phone, tablet, or laptop webcam
  • A license key — enter it once in Scanner Settings and you’re live
  • Comic Vine API key (optional, free) — dramatically improves auto-detection. Takes 30 seconds to get one.

Stop Typing. Start Scanning.

Every minute you spend hand-entering comics is a minute you’re not reading them, trading them, or hunting for the next one. CC Inventory Scanner gives you that time back — whether you’re cataloging a fresh convention haul, processing an estate buy, or just keeping up with your weekly pulls.

Your collection deserves better than a spreadsheet. Give it a scanner.
